The Plus One Culture Book Launch Party
There are moments you look forward to for months, maybe even years, and then when they finally happen, it is difficult to put into words what they mean.
The launch party for The Plus One Culture was one of those moments for me.
What started as an idea, a collection of stories, leadership lessons, baseball memories, and experiences gathered over many years finally became something I could hold in my hands. But as meaningful as it was to officially launch the book, the most memorable part of the night had very little to do with the book itself.
It was the people in the room.
Seeing family, friends, former teammates, coaches, mentors, colleagues, and so many others come together to celebrate this milestone meant more to me than I can adequately express.
Some of the people there have known me for decades. They were part of the stories that eventually became the foundation of this book.
Some coached me.
Some challenged me.
Some believed in me before I fully believed in myself.
Some worked alongside me.
Some became friends through different seasons of life.
And some are people I have only gotten to know more recently, but who have supported this journey and the message behind The Plus One Culture.
Looking around the room that evening was a powerful reminder of one of the central ideas behind the book:
No one becomes their best alone.
Every person who reaches their greatest potential can trace part of the journey back to someone who chose to invest in them.
That has certainly been true in my life.
There are coaches who taught me lessons that I did not fully understand until years later. There are teammates who pushed me to compete harder. There are mentors who challenged the way I thought about leadership. There are friends who encouraged me during difficult seasons. And there is family who has supported me through every chapter.
In many ways, The Plus One Culture exists because of all of them.
What the Night Really Represented
A book launch could easily become a celebration of an accomplishment.
And I am proud of finishing this book.
But I hope the evening represented something bigger than that.
The Plus One Culture is ultimately about the impact people have on one another.
It is about becoming the type of teammate, coach, leader, coworker, parent, or friend who makes the people around them better.
It is about building relationships that create trust.
It is about having enough trust to hold each other accountable.
It is about celebrating the behaviors that strengthen a culture.
It is about understanding that iron sharpens iron.
And it is about leaving every team, organization, and group better than you found it.
Those ideas were not created while I was sitting behind a keyboard writing a book.
They were learned through people.
They were learned on baseball fields, in weight rooms, inside locker rooms, around conference tables, through difficult conversations, during failures, through adversity, and in relationships that changed the direction of my life.
That is what made having so many of those people together in one room so meaningful.
Thank You
To everyone who attended the launch party, thank you.
Thank you for giving your time.
Thank you for buying the book.
Thank you for the conversations.
Thank you for the encouragement.
Thank you for taking pictures, sharing posts, telling friends, and helping spread the message.
Most importantly, thank you for being part of the journey.
There are people who attended that night who directly influenced stories in the book. There are others whose example helped shape the leadership principles behind it. And there are people who may never realize just how much their encouragement helped me continue writing when this project felt overwhelming.
I am incredibly grateful for every one of you.
The Launch Is Only the Beginning
October 17 marked the official launch of The Plus One Culture, but my hope is that it represents the beginning of something much larger.
I did not write this book simply so people could read another leadership book.
I wrote it because I believe better cultures are built when people make an intentional decision to positively influence the people around them.
You do not have to be the head coach.
You do not have to be the CEO.
You do not have to have a leadership title.
You simply have to decide that wherever you are, you are going to make the people and the culture around you better.
That is the Plus One mentality.
Invest in people.
Build trust.
Hold each other accountable.
Celebrate what matters.
Sharpen one another.
And leave things better than you found them.
If enough people make that decision, the impact extends far beyond one person, one team, one company, or one season.
It creates a culture that lasts.
To everyone who helped make the launch of The Plus One Culture such a memorable night, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
This book may have my name on the cover, but the lessons inside were shaped by a lifetime of people who invested in me.
I hope I can spend the years ahead doing the same for others.
Keep adding your Plus One.
